Always measure your ceiling before you go shopping so that you buy the right size. Remember that the fan will hang quite low so you need to be sure you have sufficient space. Do yourself a favor and buy something that is rust and scratch resistant. You also need one that is suitable for use in the room in question. You do not want mold growing on your modern ceiling fan. If you buy one in a brass or similar finish only use cleaning products suitable for these finishes or you will find they tarnish.

Also check your electrical circuit as you do not want to overload it due to the risk of fire. This is especially true if you plan on putting a light into the fan. If your circuit is old you may want to speak to an electrician about rewiring it before you invest in contemporary ceiling fans.
